Colonial Lodge in Greenville is interesting because it's a long-established family-owned community, but the family feedback is mixed. There are positive comments about attentive staff, but also reports concerning what happened when residents' dementia progressed, including complaints about residents being asked to leave.

That's exactly why I wouldn't use “family-owned” as a proxy for quality.

One important caveat

Texas has hundreds of licensed communities with memory-care/Alzheimer's certification, so this isn't a claim that these are objectively the “best” seven in the state.

For a decision this important, I'd next compare the finalists against Texas HHSC inspection/violation history, staffing, turnover, actual dementia-care capabilities, pricing, and how they handle residents who become more difficult to care for. Those things can matter considerably more than a 4.8-star rating.
